From Why start at x, y, z
This is a collection of ambiguous, inconsistent, or just unpleasant conventions in mathematical notation.
Symboles are poor unhandsome (though necessary) scaffolds of demonstration; and ought no more to appear in publique, then the most deformed necessary business which you do in your chambers. (Hobbes 1656)
For each bit of notation, I want to collect examples, alternatives, and references to discussions about them.
The site's name is a reference to the question about why we start naming variables at \(x\).
